February

Each person we see everyday has heartaches, challenges, fears and doubts that we’ll never know. It is difficult to put ourselves in other’s shoes and see through their eyes, but this is exactly what the Lord would have us learn. When Samuel went to Bethlehem to find the new king of Israel he was taught: "Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
Just days after the death of his daughter, President Nelson visited the devastation of the Camp Fire in California: "To anyone who has been the victim of a disaster, to anyone who struggles to get through each day, to anyone experiencing heartache or despair, I wish to tell you: We care about you! We care for you! We love you!” Even though we may not be able to know each other’s despair or struggles, we can be a force for good, and answer prayers, by extending our love to them: "You may have heard of the passing of our second daughter late last week. We mourn her loss—and yet, like our friends in California, there is nothing we’d rather do than try to be of help to others. You learn that everybody has challenges and if you want to feel better, forget about yourself and serve somebody else.” (A post shared by Russell M. Nelson (@russellmnelson) on

Through the law of sacrifice we can see more, understand more, and become more. In losing ourselves in service we can find ourselves of service, becoming more like Jesus Christ.
