December

THE GRAPEVINE
                                                           North Canyon 2nd Ward
                                                                                             December 2017

Every December I have the rather unique privilege of visiting with literally thousands of children. Our conversations vary greatly and run the gambit between monologues filled with multiple demands to genuine magical heart-felt conversations about their joys and concerns. Conversations of the second type are those that have produced some of the most Spiritual experiences that I have ever witnessed.
After many years of life, I think in a small way I am finally beginning to understand what the Lord meant when he told us to become as little children. As adults we tend to make things more complex and difficult than they really need to be. A child simply believes whole heartedly- without question as to how or why - and then tries to do whatever they can to make it happen.
As a child approaches me with the light of absolute Faith in their eyes, and as they converse with me I am privileged to feel some small portion of the love our Heavenly Father has for them and for their genuine Faith. It is the light of this Faith:

Faith that there is good in this world.
Faith that good things will happen.
Faith that you are loved.
Faith that you are here for a purpose greater than your own.
Faith that with God’s help you can be greater than you can imagine.
That is the message of Christmas and the light we must all seek.
If the bustle of the holidays make it difficult to find the light, step away from the turmoil and look, really look, into a child’s eyes as you talk with them about Christmas and I promise, it will find you.
Love you all,
Eric Bell
