January

We like the concept of a new year, a new beginning, a fresh start. As we take advantage of this opportunity to improve some aspect of our lives, let us remember good and true principles that wise people have taught us over the past year.

Teach the Gospel to the children in your lives. Some of you have our own children at home. Hold a weekly family home evening suited to their age. Some of you have grandchildren or nieces and nephews. Share your testimony or tell them stories from your lives when God was good to you. Live the commandments and be Christ like so they can see that you believe what you say.

Attend the temple and search out your ancestors. You have been called to help in the saving work of this time of earth's history. Some of us have time for research, other have time to visit the temple. It will bless your life and your ancestors' lives.

Manage your money better. Save more, spend less, be generous with others. God will bless you as you live true principles of thrift and hard work. It takes time to prosper. Do not delay making changes in your financial situation.

The new program for youth and children is valuable for anyone. Live your life with intention, which in Book of Mormon language means, act, rather than be acted upon. Evaluate something good you can do, make a plan to do it, get busy and act, reflect on the progress and make course corrections, repeat. God said, "you should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of your own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness; for the power is in you. You are an agent to act for yourself. Inasmuch as you do good, you shall not lose your reward." (D&C 58:26-29)

God will bless you as you move forward with intention based on true and good principles.
