May

In the history of Gods’ people, He has often called them together to hear the pleasing word of God and to give them guidance and counsel. Today we call these meetings general conferences. One of my favorite “general conferences” was written in the Book of Mormon found in Mosiah chapters two through six. In these chapters King Benjamin calls his people to meet as families (the center of their mortal lives) at the temple (the center of Gods Kingdom). We do the same as conference is held at Temple Square and we still meet with our families to hear the good word of God.

King Benjamin gives a marvelous message to his people that was given to him by an angel of the Lord. In modern days we have prophets, apostles and general authorities that are truly inspired. In his address, concepts were given such as: when you give service to your fellow men you are only in the service of your God (Mosiah 2:17); consider the happy state of those who keep the commandments both spiritually and temporally (Mosiah 2:41); the natural man is an enemy to God, unless he yields to the enticing of the Holy Spirit (Mosiah 3:19); are we not all beggars; do we not all depend upon God for all that we have (Mosiah 4:19); see that you do all things is wisdom and order and not to run faster than you have strength (Mosiah 4:27); watch your thoughts, words and deeds (Mosiah 4:30).

The desire of King Benjamin was that his people would be inspired to make a difference in their lives for good. This is how they responded. Mosiah 5:2 “And they all cried with one voice saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.”

That day all those who were present entered into a covenant with God to keep his commandments and they were spiritually reborn, becoming sons and daughters of God. We have recently had our general conference and we should ask ourselves, have we been spiritually born of God? Do we have no more disposition to do evil but to do good continually? Are we actively preparing to meet God?
In the upcoming months let us study the conference talks and renew the covenant we have made with God just as the people of King Benjamin becoming sons and daughters of God.

I so testify Brother Kyle Hays
