North Canyon 2nd Ward February 2018

You are a child of heavenly parents who love you. Your heavenly heritage is obscured while you live in a temporal, and telestial world. When you experience inspiration through the Holy Ghost you can remember who you really are, and your divine potential. The work and glory of our Father is expressed in each of us individually through His plan for us.

“My dear young friends, you are made of the same divine material. Some of you are married, some are single, but all of you are living among the people of this world. You are the chosen ones of our days, who by word and deed teach and live the gospel message among your people. For this purpose, you are placed in your village or city, your school or workplace, your nation, your family. Don’t forget, you have the potential to be angels of glory to those right next to you."—You are Leaders by Sister Harriet R. Uchtdorf, Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults • January 14, 2018

Our Father in Heaven knows you, hears you, and will never abandon you. He has told you "Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you" (D&C 88:63) If you are steeped in the world and it's natural ways and norms you will miss his influence and purpose in your life.

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."—Steve Jobs, Stanford Commencement Speech • June 12, 2005

Where you stand in relation to the dots, or events in your life, will make all the difference in your ability to understand the picture you are creating. Your trust and faith in the truth, the independent truth, will enable you to see His plan and your purpose.

"However, when we step back and take an eternal perspective, when we look at our lives in the frame of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we can begin to see how the various dots in our lives interconnect. We may not be able to see the entire picture just yet, but we’ll see enough to trust that there is a beautiful, grand design. And as we strive to trust God and follow His Son, Jesus Christ, one day we will see the finished product, and we will know that the very hand of God was directing and guiding our steps."—The Adventure of Mortality by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults • January 14, 2018

Wise Use of Technology
• Always have a purpose, never wander the internet or TV channels casually.
• Remember, everything you do on the internet is recorded. There is no anonymity. If you would not mind your actions on the internet to be front page news, then proceed. They could be some day.
• Never use the internet if you are bored, lonely, discouraged, or angry.
• Select a background screen image that reminds you of what is important to you, put pictures around the
computer desk (family, grandkids, God, etc).
• Be willing to give up “fun” and “popular” in order to stay clean; delete offending apps (Facebook, Instagram, snap chat, etc).
• Be accountable, have someone review your usage (computer in family area, spouse has all passwords and reviews regularly).
• Use filters and restrictions (they can’t stop you, but they will remind you of what you thought was important when you were thinking more clearly).
• Remember that we are all connected, your actions will affect someone else. Managing Technology Use with Children
• Never lie to yourself, “My kids are good, I don’t need to do this stuff.”
• Set boundaries, they want boundaries even if they complain about them.
• Set time limits on the use of the internet, computers, TVs, and gaming consoles.
• Set up as much filtering and restrictions as possible.
• No internet in bedroom or other private places.
• Phone is docked in parent’s room at night.
• Buy them an alarm clock to wake them up, not the smartphone.
• Parents have all passwords (accountability).
• Parents review text and social media accounts, etc. • Children and preteens do not need a smart phone.
• Pornography is so easy to find. Why would you facilitate that?

High Priests
How blessed we are as we witnessed the transition to our NEW Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson. He said, “Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women, and children everywhere.”
May we each think deeply as to what he said, and how "we can each open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege,” and "strengthening our life, our marriage, and family, and increase our ability to resist the attacks of the adversary."
May we each, shoulder to shoulder, move forward in faith, love, and service to our God, till the end.
With love and respect,
High Priest Group Leadership

Your worship in the temple and your service there for your ancestors will bless you with increased personal revelation and peace and will fortify your commitment to stay on the covenant path,” said President Russell M. Nelson.

Elders
We have been the recipient of quality teaching and discussion that has come by the method of Teaching the Saviors Way. I know by asking inspired questions and thoughtful discussion we have all been uplifted to be better people and to extend that love to people around us, including our families. Now we ask to take the next step and use the method of Teaching the Saviors way to our home teaching families.
I would ask that as we discuss how we can implement Teaching the Saviors Way into our home teaching, that we can come up with quorum goals about the quality of our home teaching, improved methods of reporting our home teaching, overcoming barriers to home teaching and establishing relations of trust with our home teaching families. These are the questions for discussion that will be raised in our first lesson of the new month so come prepared to share your ideas.

THE CHAPEL DOORS
The chapel doors seem to say to me, "Sh, be still."
For this is a reverent place to be, "Sh, be still."
We gather here on the Sabbath day to learn of Jesus, to sing and pray. So when we come through the chapel doors, "Sh, be still." words by Dorothy Little Reed

Family Spotlights
Carolee Cannon and Wayne Stump
On top of Mt. Timpanogos 2017
I'm Carolee Cannon (yes, I'm keeping my last name) and I was born in SLC and have three daughters. Wayne raised his two daughters in Bountiful. Between us we have 12 grandchildren. We met in a hiking group 2 years ago and were just married in December. I was impressed with Wayne because he says "hey, thanks!" constantly. Even though he is a strong hiker he looks out for those struggling or behind. Since I was often behind we became friends!
This amazing man opens my eyes to the great beauty in our natural world. He is a gentle and patient teacher of plants, birds, stars, weather and street directions! I noticed right away that he does not speak negatively of others but looks at differences with humility and unconditional love. Wayne is such a good person and has a tender heart. I thank Heavenly Father for bringing us
together! Wayne worked with medical labs and computers in his career. It involved travel to interesting places like Saudi Arabia. I was blessed to be a stay at home mom and try to nuture family in our changing stages. I enjoy a Church Service Mission in the SLC Headquarters Mission. Some of our other interests are art, reading (Wayne) and writing about family (Carolee). We are excited to get to know all of you better.

We are Ray and Dorothy Bronson and have lived in our ward area since 1967. That year we purchased our acre lot. Together we designed our home. Ray drew the house plans and was also the contractor for the home's construction.
When we moved here our daughter, Colleen, was only nine and our son, Glenn, was six. Now they both have families of their own. We have nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Most of our family live close by so we enjoy lots of family fun and activities.
We feel these past 50 years have been filled with many choice blessings, opportunities, and experiences including the usual challenges.
Ray has worked as a draftsman, an electrical engineer, real estate salesman and broker, a building contractor and as owner of his own Handy Man business before retiring. He enjoys hunting, fishing, boating - especially fishing and riding his tractor.
Dorothy loves her flower gardens and just being a mother, grandmother, wife and homemaker besides enjoying her talent as an artist, and doing genealogy and temple work.
Upon Ray’s early retirement, we served a leadership mission in the Philippines and later a temple mission in Nauvoo, Illinois. We both served missions prior to our marriage.
Presently we serve as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple and have for the last twenty years, taking time off to serve missions and necessary time for personal health reasons.

We love our good neighbors and being a part of the ward family. We have served in many callings. Ray has served as Bishop and High Councilman, and Dorothy as Relief Society and Young Women's president. Presently we teach the temple preparation class and love it.

We are Val and Lynn Christensen. When we decided to downsize our home in Herriman in 2015, we launched an exhaustive (unsuccessful) search for a new home. With no intent to ever build a home or move to Davis County, we fell in love with this beautiful spot in Ruth Estates. And here we are!
Lynn was born and raised in American Fork, Utah, attended school at Utah Valley University and
joined Utah Power and Light right out of school. His employment took him to Kemmerer, Wyoming, where he and Val met. He spent his career in the power industry as an instrumentation technician for major power plants and hospitals. He grew up farming, hunting, and fishing. Now in retirement, he cares for his elderly mom, loves the gym and hits the golf course whenever possible.
Val was born in Evanston, Wyoming, and raised in Billings, Montana and Lander, Wyoming. She attended school at BYU and joined the small coal company in Kemmerer, starting her career in Labor Relations and Human Resources. The coal company was bought by Chevron, which changed the course of our lives. As a global executive for Chevron, she ran a worldwide organization in 104 countries, and had the privilege of traveling the globe contributing to the corporate machine and leading major philanthropic projects.
We have one daughter together, Dakota, who lives with our fabulous granddaughter, Aria (5), in Syracuse, Utah. We also have one son, Chad, who lives with his wife Sarah and our darling granddaughter, Claire (2), in Southern California.
We have been together 40 years and have lived in Wyoming, Hawaii, California and Utah. When we retired in 2008, we moved to Utah and settled in Herriman, planning to continue traveling the world together. Val had about 18 months of retirement when the Church called and asked for assistance with some global restructuring projects. That 2-year endeavor lasted for 6 years, when she retired for the 2nd time in 2016. Having this experience working for the Church blessed our lives in immeasurable ways.
We love the area and living among such great people! Thank you for welcoming us!
