I recently heard a story about Elder Holland (it is also in the July2017 Ensign). He was at a meeting at some university when a student
yelled out, "Brother Holland, would you give your life for Jesus?"
Elder Holland thought a moment then answered, "That's what I thought
I was doing." While it may seem a heroic and ultimate sacrifice to
die for a cause or a person you love, it is a greater sign of devotion and love
to give each moment and day to that cause or person. Your time, talents,
and resources are uniquely yours to spend. It is extremely popular now
days to waste them in pursuit of entertainment, selfish pursuits, and quick
thrills. We all are aware that we will someday account to God for how we
have spent our lives, who we have helped, and if we have been faithful to
Him. But it is easy to forget or disregard because the reckoning seems
distant. Start today to give your life to God. I encourage you to
choose each day to live the commandments, reach out to people and help them,
and improve yourself in some way.
You will be happy, truly happy if you do these things. Peace will come
to your life.
With Love,
Bishop Merrill

June 7th we did another trip to the Temple to do baptisms for the dead. We always love
going to the Temple and love feeling the spirit that is there!
June 14th we made posters for our upcoming Girls Camp Fundraiser, and passed out fliers to ward members.
June 17th: Girls Camp Fundraiser: This year we decided to do just the bake sale instead of the bake sale and car wash. We have fewer girls and leaders than we’ve had in previous years and didn’t think we’d have enough people to man the car wash stations. The girls all helped make some goodies, they helped with selling treats, and they helped the kids make crafts for their Dad’s for Father’s Day. The bake sale was a huge success! We are SO grateful to each of you for your generous donations. We love and appreciate you all so much!

We had a great time on our High Adventure activity. We went down by Zion National Park and we repelling down into a slot canyon that was named Yankee Doodle. The boys got to repel down several cliffs and one of them was 70 feet! The hike was about 2 miles long and very technical. We enjoyed camping, hiking, good food, and had a great fireside. The boys built a swimming pool by piling rocks in the river, caught crawdads and frogs. It was an awesome adventure and we appreciate all the support of our ward to help us achieve another great High Adventure!
The young men are always looking for
service project to help those in the ward. Please contact Kevin Hardy

Elders
As we celebrate the birth of our country I was reading a talk by
President Benson and thought the following four points would be good for us all
to ponder:
- We must be righteous and moral.
We must live the gospel principles—all of them. We have no right to expect
a higher degree of morality from those who represent us than what we
ourselves exhibit.
- We must learn the principles of
the Constitution and then abide by its precepts.
- We must become involved in
civic affairs. As citizens of this republic, we cannot do our duty and be
idle spectators.
- We must make our influence felt
by our vote, our letters, and our advice. We must be wisely informed and
let others know how we feel.
The full talk is called: The Constitution—A Glorious
Standard - By President Ezra Taft Benson
