April

Full PDF of Grapevine hereListen to sacrament meeting audio here. See pictures from our day of service here.

Every spring I am refreshed and excited by the new life I see in the flowers pushing out of the dirt and in the bright green buds on the seemingly dead limbs of trees.  The warmth and longer days of the sun bring life where once there was only darkness and cold on a dead landscape.  It is all so fitting that our Savior was resurrected in the springtime.  The scriptures teach us that "all things bear record of me [God]."  The light of the sun represents the Light of Christ that radiates from His presence through all space and brings life to our bodies.  The flowers rise from the ground as a reminder that a body rises from the tomb. If we look around, we might find as did Alma that "I have all these things as a testimony that God lives and that Christ shall come."  As we approach Easter Sunday, I hope that you will rejoice with the earth and all of God's creations that death is overcome in Jesus Christ.  And may we learn from the earth that we can start over in our spiritual lives through the forgiveness available from the atonement of Jesus Christ. If our thoughts and hopes are dark and far from God, let us change by coming to Christ, reach towards His light that we may grow and blossom in His light.

Family History Corner

Just a few items for you to consider for Family History:
1)  On April 22, the Utah Genealogical Association will be hosting the 20th Annual South Davis Conference at Woods Cross High School.  You can register online thru Saturday April 16th at http://ugagenealogy.org/aem.php?eid=25.
2)  The South Davis Family History Center is located in our chapel.  We have wonderful staff who volunteer their time to help others.  If you are interested in doing this, let me know and I will connect you with the right people.  In the meantime, do you have questions about Puzilla, Scanning or Legacy?  If so, be sure to come to our Family History Center for some answers.  Danny Lewis works on Monday from 9 am to noon and can help you with Puzilla.org.  Brother Jorgensen works on Wednesday from 9 am to noon and can help you with Scanning.  Leonard Plazier works on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm and can help you with Legacy.
Did you catch the family history talks and references to family history during conference?  Are you a gatherer?  If you are not a gatherer, now is the time to become one.  Come see us during Sunday School in the Family History Center.
This is from the Saturday morning talk, Gathering the Family of God by President Henry B. Eyring.
"General conference has always been a time of gathering for the Latter-day Saints. …
I have felt impressed to speak to you today about another kind of gathering. … I refer to the gathering of the family of God. …
… Our Heavenly Father is anxious to gather and bless all of His family. While He knows that not all of them will choose to be gathered, His plan gives each of His children the opportunity to accept or reject His invitation. And families are at the heart of this plan.
Centuries ago, the prophet Malachi said that in a coming day, God would send Elijah to “turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers” (Malachi 4:6). …
… The hearts of the children—of you and me—have turned to our fathers, our ancestors. …
The youth have caught the vision admirably; now their parents need to catch up. There are now many people who have accepted baptism in the spirit world because of the work done by the youth, and they are waiting for other ordinances that only adults can perform in the temple. The work of gathering Heavenly Father’s family is not just for young people, and it is not just for their grandparents. It is for everyone. We are all gatherers. …
I testify that God the Father wants His children home again, in families and in glory. The Savior lives. He directs and blesses this work, and He watches over and guides us. He thanks you for your faithful service in gathering His Father’s family, and I promise you the inspired help that you seek and need."
Hope to see you soon! Sister Stephanie Sigman

👩🏼Young Women🌼

The Mutual Theme for 2017 is:
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed” (James 1:5–6))

April  Lesson Theme: The Apostasy and the Restoration

“I have sent forth the fulness of my gospel by the hand of my servant Joseph” (D&C 35:17).
The outlines in this unit will help the young women understand the Great Apostasy and how Jesus Christ restored His Church and the fulness of His gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith. In this unit the young women can learn about the key events of the Restoration and discover the relevance of those events in their lives.

April Activities:
5th – Spring Break – no activity
12th – Stake YW Dinner:  6:00 pm at the Stake Center.  This is a Western-themed dinner, so come wearing your western clothing.  Yeehaw!! 🤠
18th (TUESDAY) – Combined activity- baptisms for the dead.  Please meet at the church no later than 4:00 pm to carpool up to the temple.  NO ACTIVITY ON WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK!        26th – Cooking Class at Alexander’s home, 7pm.  Jen will be teaching us how to make a delicious chocolate lava cake.  You won’t want to miss this!

March Activity Recap:  March was such a fun month!  On March 1st, the YM were in charge of our combined activity.  They put together a Human Foosball Game, and it was wild and crazy and mounds of fun!  They made foosball poles out of PVC pipe.  We were separated into teams, held onto our pole with our teammates for dear life, and tried our best to kick a soccer ball into the goal without all of us tipping each other over!  Oh it was great fun!
On March 7th, we held our New Beginnings activity to welcome our incoming Beehive, Emma Jean Johnson.  She will be turning 12 in December, and we are so excited she’ll be joining us!  The theme for New Beginnings was D.O.T.S., which stood for Depend on the Savior. We had polka-dot decorations, sugar cookies with polka-dots, and lots of little DOTS to help us remember to Depend on the Savior.   Jolene Gates put together an awesome game of Family Feud for all of us to play, and to help introduce the values to Emma, and to help her understand how the YW program works.  We loved getting to know Emma a little better, and love her fun personality.  She will be a wonderful addition to our beehive class!
On March 15th, Emily Davis’ mom and sister came and taught some of us how to do indexing, and gave those that already knew how to index a great refresher course. They were fun teachers!
On March 29th, we threw a baby shower for Carlie Hellberg, who is our Beehive Advisor.  She had her first baby, a darling little girl named Maddie, back in December.  We loved getting to know Maddie and celebrating this exciting occasion with Carlie!
