February

"It has been said that the gate of history turns on small hinges, and so do people’s lives. The choices we make determine our destiny."
President Thomas S. Monson
(Choose You This Day; October 2014)

Those of us who are elderly can remember those hinges now that we can look back (with our reading glasses on). It's easier for us to se the hand of The Lord in our lives when we think about our experiences as teenagers and young adults.

What experiences are we providing to our children that they will look back on and see as a hinge in their own lives? What are the Brethren telling our children and how can we curate and amplify these messages to the youth in our Ward, young adults in our influence, and our own children?

First, we can pay attention to the messages that the living seers are trying to get through right now. What are the First Presidency Messages? What is being taught in Sunday School, Aaronic Priesthood and Young Women? What is sharing time about? What are they learning about in seminary every day? What are the apostles teaching the young adults in the worldwide devotionals, and in institute classes?

Next, we could think about where and when we have influence, whether as a parent in everyday crossroads of life situations, a youth advisor on Wednesday, a teacher on Sunday, a friend giving advice, a grandmother chatting with a granddaughter. What are these young people learning about? What experiences have we had that will help them hold to the rod through the mists of darkness? How can we show them, through our own examples and teachings, the happiness inherent in the plan of happiness?

"The Lord’s plan is a plan of happiness. The way will be lighter, the worries will be fewer, the confrontations will be less difficult if we cultivate a spirit of happiness."
President Gordon B. Hinkley
(Cultivating an Attitude of Happiness and a Spirit of Optimism Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Gordon B. Hinckley, 2016)

Sure there are easier thing to do, but none more important.

Sunday School

Just a couple of quick thoughts from the Sunday School
1)    The Church has built out and published a new app – the LDS Media Library app. This new app contains Church videos, images, and music content and allows the user to more easily find, edit, organize or present the media when teaching. If you need a portion of a General Conference talk or section of a hymn you can easily trim the video or song and playback the portion that applies to your lesson. It also allows for offline viewing so you don’t have to try streaming the video in your class. The app can be found at both the Apple App Store and Google Play and is free!
2)    We will be having the monthly Teacher Council Meeting on February 19th in the North Pillar room. The subject will be “Love Those You Teach”
3)    The February Gospel Doctrine Lesson Schedule will be:
Feb 5
 Doctrine and Covenants 6; 8; 9; 11.
Feb 12
D&C 19:23; 88:118; Alma 32:27,  D&C 58:42–43, 2 Nephi 2:6–9
Feb 19
D&C 13; 20: 38-67; 27:12-13; 84:6-30; 107:1-20; 110:11-16; JSH 1:66-73; OH 11-14
Feb 26
D&C 20: 1-36, 68-69, 75-79; 21; 27; 115:1-4; OH 14-16
